THE FLUVIAL LEXICON

THE FLUVIAL LEXICON
In response to a dysfunctional, rigid, and linear levee system, this design proposes a way for a small park near the state capitol to harness rather than confine the Mississippi River. With a complementary system of floating platforms and gabion walls, the concept slows the surging river and allows sedimentary accretion to emulate the cyclical buildup and erosion of land. An extended levee trail gives access to people in the city while the platform system reveals how the river's banks are shifting. The modular platform system rises, falls, and moves laterally in sync with the river. The jury admired the clever, transformational blend of science and art represented in this project.
