Gelanggang
Olah Raga (GOR) Timika is set to be a sports hub. The development will include an indoor stadium,
equipped with a basketball hall, badminton court, volleyball court, etc. The
area around GOR is intended tor vehicles and pedestrians; however, the
boulevard concept on site will make the area more spacious, hence allowing
users to engage in other activities such as cycling.
An athletic tribune structure, which will
mark the centre point of the stadium space, is specially designed for awards
presentations. There will also be an athletes' dormitory. Inspiration for the
design stems from the native bird of Papua Bird of Paradise and the
traditional Honai House, which is dome shaped and built with various natural
materials such as bamboo, earth and dried grass. In the dormitory area, there
is an amphitheatre, also accessible to the public, where athletes can gather
and Interact,
Traditional Papua carvings can be found in
the buildings, specifically on the ventilation trellis inside the dormitory and
indoor stadium. Besides serving an aesthetic function, the trellis will also
provide sunshading and aid in cross ventilation. The facade of the indoor
stadium is made of stone material, making it a low maintenance building.
